Oh the peony. One of the most billowy, blousy, beautiful blooms there is. We just love them...sooooo much. From their delicate floral scent to their fluffy double petals, they truly are the most stunning bridal flower and come in the most gorgeous array of colours. The 'Duchess de Nemo' white peonies are perfect for a chic bride, styling a formal, classic wedding. Touches of textural dusty miller and brunia create soft grey elements which compliment the cool white tones. The peonies are barely open, but perfectly full.
In the above image, the bouquet is more informal and relaxed with fragrant white and blush pink sweetpeas handtied amongst soft pink 'Opal' hydrangea, 'Bowl of Beauty' and 'Flor Nicholls' peonies. Here, the different stages of opening of the peonies add visual interest and texture.
Ivory 'Princes Bride' peonies work beautifully with antiqued blush 'Quicksand' roses and muted grey senecio in a more structured and compact handtied bouquet. This delicate palette is perfect for informal, whimsical and romantic weddings in the country or in an outdoor setting.
Peonies are also wonderful complimenting florals, happy to take the back seat and let other flowers take centre stage...they are a self-assured little bloom! In the bouquet above, layered petals of ranunculus, David Austin 'Juliet' roses, ammi and eucalyptus 'Populus' are joined by just two open double 'Sarah Bernhard' peonies... a beautifully contrasting bouquet which is natural and free-flowing in style.
Peonies are also a stunning choice for a simple yet impactful centrepiece. They exude expensive charm yet subtle sophistication. On the long testle table above, cubed tank vases are filled with handtied 'Festiva Maxima' peony arrangements tied with aspidistra leaves. Dotted with cube chapel candles, the arrangements reflect the romantic candlelight and the varying heights add visual impact and interest.
The 'Coral Sunset' peonies in the clear teardrop vase above are the most luxurious colour. They begin as a deep pink tight bullet bud, then as they begin to open they turn into a hot coral before turning to a rich pink with soft salmon outer petals. Nothing else is needed when arranging the stems like this for a table centrepiece.
For those Spring/early Summer brides, they are such an incredible choice of floral which look incredible in any colour and work so beautifully with such an array of other flowers but also hold their own when blooming solo. We just can't get enough of them.
